Neapoli

Neapoli is a beautiful small town, 12 from Agios Nikolaos. Surrounded by olive trees and mountains, with a cool breeze throughout summer, and just 10-15 mins drive from all popular beaches of the area is THE ideal holiday place for people who like to stay in calm places, while having the cosmopolitan air just a few kilometers away. It is built in the middle of a valley famous for its bizarre shape, locally known as “Skafi tou Mirabelou” (Tub of Mirabelos). It consists of many different settlements, e.g. Kourounes, Nofalias, Finokalias, Ksera Ksila and Parabela. It used to be the capital of the prefecture until Agios Nikolaos took its place in 1904, causing the locals to protest.

A beautiful huge square is the central meeting point in Neapolis, with a lot of green and with neoclassical buildings. When being in Crete, don't miss to visit Neapolis.

It is a very attractive place where visitors can see beautiful Turkish remains, the fine churches of Agia Ekaterini and Panagia Kera Goniotissa and the monasteries of Kremasta and Agios Georgios Vrahatsiotis.
