Beaches

The road continues along the coast, to the pretty cove of Stalida, 32 km. from Heraklion. This is an attractive tourist resort with abundant greenery and market gardens. There is an excellent beach with fine, white sand. From Stalida, a side-road to the right climbs up through dense olive groves to Mochos. This village stands at an altitude of 400 metres and has a panoramic view over Mallia Bay. Picturesque alleys lead to fine houses with courtyards crammed with flowers, and in the centre of the village there is a large square with a dance floor. On 15 August each year, the Heraklion Travel Club organises a festival of folk dance and song. From Mochos the road continues upwards to the Lasithi plateau.
